In previous report, i reported about what is Tsunami and how it happens. Part of Tsunami.
This time report mentions about biggest MT(mega tsunami) in the past and safe tips against tsunami plus terrible Tsunami in the near future.

Some Indian race that existed in Alaska had myth about terrible gigantic monster.
Usually this monster sleep but when this monster wakes up, nothing is going to be left.
In the past this monster woke up once and made gigantic horrible Tsunami
This story is about the monster. Called Lituya Bay Mega Tsunami

‘Enormous Earthquake
Lituya Bay is a large inlet along the coast of Alaska that is in a seismically active area – part of the “Pacific Rim of Fire”. What happened at Lituya was movement along the fault that runs from left to right in the above picture. If you pretend you’re actually standing on the ridgetop looking out over the Bay (like the view in the above picture) the fault would be in the mountains behind you. The “movement in the fault”, of course, is called an earthquake. The magnitude of the quake was about 8.3, although some
This photo shows the damage to the headland; every living thing was completely wiped off where the first major wave struck

sources say it was a 7.9, on the Richter Scale (a scale for measuring the magnitude, or amount of energy released, from an earthquake). Pretty awesome shaker. Well, shaker it was…it “shook” loose an estimated 40 million cubic yards of dirt and glacier from a mountainside at the head of the Bay, about where you’re standing in the above picture. When the stuff went “kersploosh” into the water it created a massive wave that washed 1,720 ft/524m high over the headland in the right side of the above picture. The tsunami inundated approximately 5 square miles of land along the shores of Lityua Bay, sending water as far as 3,600 feet inland, and clearing millions of trees. You can see the damage to the trees that were growing on the headland when the wave washed over the top of it – there were no trees left…wiped ‘em clean off. The picture above gives you a closer view of the damage to the headland that the tidal waves caused.
Human Witnesses

U.S.G.S. Aerial photo of Lituya Bay taken after July 9, 1958 event. Note the extent of the non-forested areas of land lining the shore of the bay, which marks the approximate reach of the tsunami’s runup.

happened. That’s the main reason we know it happened. There were human witnesses to the catastrophic event. Unfortunately, one of the boats was close to shore and the huge waves overtook it killing the two people on board. Amazingly, the other two boats “rode” the tidal waves as they washed from the source of the landslide and resonated around the bay, like water sloshing in a wash basin. The boaters watched in horror as the first enormous wave engulfed the small fishing boat and wiped everything in its path off the land. If there had been a town or city on the shores of the bay everyone in it would have been killed. Fortunately, because it was an unpopulated area, the loss of life was minimal (although, the family of the victims hardly think that it was good fortune).
How Do They Know?
To measure the height of the biggest wave, all scientists had to do was look for the high water mark – that’s the line where the water reached its highest point on the nearby land. It’s real easy to find you just look for the uppermost edge of the damaged area (see photo at left).
Then, they measured the elevation of the highest point on the high water mark to get a measurement of 1,720 ft/524 high – the biggest wave ever measured.

Other Big Waves
There are waves out on the ocean all the time, which are created by the friction, or the dragging motion, of the wind over the vast surface of the sea. When big storms develop out at sea creating fast winds it causes really big waves, called storm waves. Ships out at sea during these really big storms have experienced some pretty big waves, some as much as 100 ft/31m high, but that’s about as big as storm waves get out on the open sea. Nothing like the “big one” at Lituya Bay.

Here’s something to think about…There happened to be people fishing in the Bay the day that the landslide and resulting tidal wave occurred. That part of Alaska is not populated, but people come to that area for many reasons. There are places on this earth that are so inhospitable (really bad) that few people ever visit. For example, the Arctic, or the Antarctic, in winter are some pretty nasty, cold places. Not only are they not fun places to visit, but they’re virtually inaccessible to humans in winter. It’s totally possible that in early spring, when the ice starts to melt, and glaciers calve into the ocean (break off HUGE chunks) that really big waves occur. Possibly even bigger than the massive one at Lituya Bay! The wave may wash up over ice and ice-covered land, but the evidence melts away so that no human ever knows it happened.

We say that the tsunami at Lituya Bay was the biggest wave ever, but that’s just the ones humans have witnessed and have been able to record. There have probably been even BIGGER waves that have happened in the past when human witnesses didn’t even exist. And you never know, there may even be a bigger wave to happen yet! (from a website)

This kind of reason.

Then how fast it is? Can’t we prepare for that?

Tsunami wave can travel at the speed of a commercial jet plane, over 800 km/h. They can move from one side of the Pacific Ocean in less than a day. The waves can be extremely dangerous and damaging when they reach the shore.

For example, the Chilean Tsunami happened in 1960s, after occured Tsunami, after12 hours, energy of Tsunami reached to New Zealand, after 2 hours from the time. Hawaii suffered power of the Tsunami. After 22 hours since it happened, Japan experienced the damaged of Tsunami. Less than a day, Tsunami past through Pacific Ocean. As fast as jumbo jet like Boeing 747. (ex. from Tokyo -> Brasil approximately 22 hours).

What should we do?

1. If you are at home and hear there is a tsunami warning, you should make sure your entire family is aware of the tsunami. Your family should evacuate your house if you live in a tsunami evacuation zone.

2. If you are at the beach or near the ocean and you feel the earth shake, move immediately to higher ground. Do not wait for a tsunami warning to be announced.

3. If you are on a ship or boat, do not return to port if you are at sea and a tsunami warning has been issued for your area. Tsunami can cause rapid changes in water level and unpredictable dangerous current in harbours and ports.

4. If you are at the beach or near ocean, go into the ocean directly with fresh oxygen. Principal Tsunami is transmit energy. So you must go into deep water and wait untill wave past through.( ex- in 2004 during the Indian Tsunami, many people died but people who was playing scover diving, they didn’t even felt about Tsunami)

Tsunami in our near future

According to National Geographic Channel (NGC), huge gigantic mega Tsunami will be happened in near future. One of Hawaiian island is prepareing for eruption. The island will splited when the volcano erupt. Half of entire island goes into the ocean. So the ocean will take huge energy and send this huge energy to opposite side of the island. This happening is going to make ultra Mega Tsunami that we’ve never met in the past .After half an hour, this energy will reached to Honolulu. Several hundreads meters high waves strikes the city and the water goes through into inland more than 15km with trash, deris, coral with mud. Even best counterplan is useless against this Tsunami. This is going to be happend. Only problem is Time.

According as global warming, icebergs are melting rapidly, sea level rises. Simple to say our Earth is getting warmer and warmer now, because nowdays technology is advanced, many convenient conveyances are invented, but conveyances keep discharging carbon dioxide to the air, this causes atomsphere getting thinner and thinner.

Once it happened, the iceberg is melting rapidly, according to the scientists, in 50 years, ice cap might be completely melted every year summer, average temperature increases, sea temperature rises and ice melt, this cause the whole world mean sea level rise gradually, to 2100, sea level will increase 38~56cm campare to 1990.

By th way, melting iceberg from North Pole will not cause sea level to rise, in North Pole, the icebergs are floating on the sea, even they melt, it will not has big effect to the sea level compare with South Pole. Try an experienment, put some ice in a glass of water and melt them, the water will not increase.

As these people moving to other countries, it will caused over population and once this happening the country will started to cut down our natural trees for their housing. On the other hand, we might not know why shouldn’t we help these countries, it is not we can’t, disasters like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and droughts can change the whole environment, as these happening, we can’t stop. This is one of the reasons why they migrated, themselves have event gave up in their own country, and this is why these countries are becoming more and more backward.

Global warming, the increase of temperature globally, is now the hottest issue in our world. The effect of this phenomenon could cause the earth to be destroyed. But how does global warming happened in the first place?? and who did it??

Global Warming is caused to greenhouses gases. An example of this gas is methane. This gas will traps heat in the earth atmosphere which caused to increase in global temperature. The release of this gas can be caused naturally or by human activities.

The release of methane gas from wetland or arctic tundra is an example of natural causes. Another cause is the earth goes through a cycle of climate change. This caused the temperature of the earth increase slightly.

Pollution, which caused by human activities has severely damaged the earth. We emitted greenhouse gases every second, continuously increasing the heat trapped by the atmosphere. Pollution is released by the burning of fossil fuel. Fossil fuel are made of organic matter such as oil and coal. When they are burnt, they will release CO² . Mining also allows methane to escape from the ground. Causing even more greenhouse gases.

Another major cause of global warming is population. There will be demand of more food as the population grow. More food is needed to feed people. This cause a lot of methane produced from animal. Population also increase the amount of vehicle which further increase production of CO².

We has killed the planet’s life gradually by our activities, also our greediness has caused more problem to our planet. We cut down forest which is essential for the regulation of air in the atmosphere for many pruposes. Thus the amount of o2 produced by plant is decrease significantly.

Global Warming, its just about time. It will happened soon or later, we had use the natural resources, giving nothing in return. its still not too late to pay back our mistake that we made. By keeping our surrounding green and minimize the usage of modern technology,

We still have time.. Before its too late,

Save our environment, save our green earth
